JOHN MAYER

Sob Rock (2021)

As well as the noble activism of the group Dead & Company (formed by the former members of Grateful Dead Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart) and numerous concerts performed with Eric Clapton, John Mayer can also boast a solo career peppered with outstanding works.
His latest album released in July 2021, “Sob Rock”, confirms and reinforces all the compositive and interpretative characteristics that emerged in previous records. The temptingly cunning music proposal of the preceding “The Search for Everything” (2017) is especially obvious in the enchanting melodies, the perfect equilibrium between linear rock and extremely elegant pop, and the wonderfully accurate videoclips for some tracks from the album.
Considering then that the album’s production was entrusted to a musical expert of the calibre of Donald Fagenson (in art Don Was, 1995 winner of the Grammy Award for producer of the year and having already worked on albums by Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, The Rolling Stones, Zucchero Fornaciari, Jackson Browne, Elton John, Brian Wilson, Willie Nelson, Van Morrison to name but a few) it is easy to understand how “Sob Rock” stands up there as one of the most pleasing and successful albums of 2021.
