A powerful female voice, to put it mildly, an energetic band with a sparkling horn section, funk and rock played with laudable feeling: in 2017 the band Miss Velvet And The Blue Wolf entered the discographic market with the long-play CD “Bad Get Some”.
Preceded by a miniCD entitled “Dare”, the ten songs featured on “Bad Get Some” may well launch the eight North American musicians to the very top of the chart for best debut albums of the year.
Furthermore, almost as a justification for the pressing comparisons many musical critics have drawn between Miss Velvet’s voice and that of Janis Joplin, the last track on “Bad Get Some” is a captivating version of “Summertime”. An interpretation which doubtlessly reminds us of the deceased Texan singer’s “historical” version of the classic by George Gershwin and Dubose Heyward.
