JAMES MADDOCK
Night Work (2023)
Formerly a member of bands like Fire Next Time and Wood, English singer-songwriter James Maddock (born in 1962 in Leicester but settled in New York City now for years) composed the twelve tracks of "Night Work" during the autumn nights of 2022, from which the album takes its title. To record them, he enlisted the drummer (and his private recording studio) Steve Jackson and bassist James O'Malley (both fellow adventurers with Maddock in the band Wood), along with other New York musicians.
The album presents the pleasant sound of songwriting that draws from rock and folk, with fleeting forays into upscale pop, and the sunny, happy, interpretive exposition that has always characterised the artist's career, particularly as highlighted in his previous two albums: "No Time To Cry" (released in 2020 and already SUPERrecommendedalbum by rockpartyshow) and "Little Bird In The Neighbourhood" (2021).
