ROBERT RANDOLPH
Preacher Kids (2025)
The production, entrusted mainly to Shooter Jennings, and collaborations with Margo Price and Judith Hill (prominent figures in the contemporary country and rhythm&blues scenes, respectively) are indicative of a change of direction for pedal steel guitar master Robert Randolph.
"Preacher Kids" is credited solely to Randolph (without the support of the Family Band) and mixes gospel, rock, blues, and improvisation, recounting the human and musical evolution of the American artist: the album is a personal diary that reflects the experiences of a preacher's son, torn between faith and the rebellious spirit of rock‘n’roll. A series of studio jam sessions resulted in a sequence of original compositions and a reworking of JJ Cale's "Like To Love You Baby".
