The new album by Gregg Allman's son doesn't have much in common with his previous album, "Miami Moon" (2024). "The Blues Summit" is the result of close collaboration with other musicians: not only those who are regular members of his band, but also important guests such as Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Larry McCray, Jimmy Hall, and Robert Randolph. On most of the ten tracks on the album, Devon Allman allows his special guests to take center stage, willingly stepping aside. The result is one of the most authentically bluesy albums of his discography.
Particularly noteworthy are the reinterpretations of "Wang Dang Doodle" (Willie Dixon) and "Little Wing" (Jimi Hendrix) and the enveloping "Real Love" (written by Devon Allman), featuring an excellent and sensual performance by New Orleans singer Sierra Green.
