CALEXICO

El Mirador (2022)

Calexico (the artistic offspring of two musicians, Joey Burns and John Convertino, both former members of the band Giant Sand) celebrates its 25th anniversary with its tenth studio album entitled "El Mirador".
Recorded in Calexico collaborator Sergio Mendoza's private study (Silverbell Studios in Tucson, Arizona), "El Mirador" follows the publication of the Christmas album "Seasonal Shift" in 2020.
The twelve exciting tracks on the album are mainly sung in Spanish (apart from the instrumental piece "Turquoise"), engaging the listener in a Latin atmosphere, Cuban soundscapes, territories lying on the border between the United States and Mexico. Compositional features that have also been much appreciated by fellow musicians: in fact, 2021's record "Raise the Roof" by the couple Robert Plant and Alison Krauss was opened with a reinterpretation of the track "Quattro (Words Drifts In)" composed by Burns and Convertino and originally included in Calexico's 2003 "Feast Of Wire".
"El Mirador" is produced by the two founders of the band and Sergio Mendoza.
