ROBBEN FORD
Bringing It Back Home (2013)
Being a guitarist since he was thirteen, the Californian Robben Ford can boast about cooperations with Joni Mitchell, George Harrison, Miles Davis just to name a few in his curriculum.
Both solo and with self-created formations, Ford has published excellent albums soaked in blues and jazz moods. As shown by the record for the brand Provogue “Bringing It Back Home” too, published during the first weeks of 2013, six years after the previous work in Truth studio.
Ten tracks played skilfully by the owner's guitar and voice, in a joyful union between elegant jazz and the most passionate blues.
Besides a couple of tracks signed by Ford himself (and the traditional instrumental track “On That Morning” adjusted by the guitarist), the record contains the revisiting of compositions by Bod Dylan (“Most Likely You Go Your Way And I’ll Go Mine”), Allen Toussaint (the opening “Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky” and the wonderful “Fair Child”), Big Joe Williams (“Birds Nest Bound”), Charlie Doyle (“Slick Capers Blues”), his wife Ann Kerry Ford and Michael McDonald (“Traveler’s Waltz”), Earl King (“Trick Bag”), Bob Geddins, Johnny Fuller and David Avid (the final “Fool’s Paradise”).
