WILLIE NILE
New York At Night (2020)
Willie Nile (born Robert Anthony Noonan) is one of the most authentic, compelling performers of clean, linear, incisive rock.
From the very beginning of his career (his self-titled debut record was released in 1980), Nile has demonstrated a simple yet original writing style, emanating solid, rich sounds with a punch.
“New York At Night” (officially released on 15th May 2020, but distributed a few months later due to the COVID-19 pandemic) remains true to the original staff coherently and affectionately following a journey (of the senses as well as music) exuding respect and love for the US metropolis.
Jaunty rock tracks (like the opening “New York Is Rockin’”, the grouchy “The Backstreet Slide”, the elegant “Downtown Girl”) alternate with undoubtably enchanting (such as the tender “Doors Of Paradise” and “Under This Roof”, the passionate “A Little Bit Of Love”, the intimistic “The Last Time We Made Love”).
James Maddock is on vocals, while acoustic guitar and synthesiser are played by Stewart Lerman who also produced “New York At Night” together with Willie Nile as well as numerous other albums by the singer-songwriter, as well as collaborating with artists such as Crash Test Dummies, Loudon Wainwright III, Acoustic Syndicate, Black 47, Darden Smith and many more.
