MARC BROUSSARD
S.O.S. 4 Blues For Your Soul (2023)
Son of a musician (his father Ted was a guitarist for the band The Boogie Kings, active in the mid-60s), Marc Broussard is rightly considered one of the most talented and interesting interpreters of contemporary blues and soul. Born in Carencro, Louisiana, the singer-songwriter has often incorporated the moods of his native territory into his recordings and live performances, captivating listeners with references to the typical atmospheres of the bayou, Mississippi, and swamps. It is no coincidence that his musical style has been identified as "Bayou Soul", a mix of funk, blues, soul, rhythm&blues, rock, and pop, combined with strong roots in the Southern United States.
For his recent album "S.O.S. 4: Blues For Your Soul", he teamed up with Joe Bonamassa (together with Josh Smith), who produced the record and actively participated in the recording by playing guitar on three tracks, making Broussard's excellent vocal performance even more engaging.
Of all the songs on "S.O.S. 4: Blues For Your Soul", only the closing track, "When Will I Let Her Go", is original (composed by the CD's owner, Josh Smith, and bassist Calvin Turner). The remaining tracks are signed, among others, by John Lee Hooker, Roosvelt Sykes, Eddie Miller, Chester Burnett "Howlin' Wolf", Gerry Goffin & Barry Goldberg, and Bobby Womack & James Holiday.
Guests on the album include keyboardist Reese Wynans (on "Driving Wheel"), Roddie Romero (on guitar on "Cuttin' In"), JJ Grey (on vocals on "I Asked For Water"), Eric Krasno (on guitar on "I Like To Live The Love" and "I've Got To Use My Imagination"), Dennis Gruenling (on harmonica on "I Asked For Water"), and Bobby Junior (on rhythm guitar on "Cuttin' In" and "Love, The Time Is Now").
